Call of Duty’s 3 developer cycle is no more. What use to be Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games, Treyarch is now dropping Sledgehammer according to sources close to Kotaku. Call of Duty: Black Ops 5 will be the be the 2020 Call of Duty title apparently. Raven and Sledgehammer will become support studios and will take what they did for their single player game originally slated for 2020 is applying it to Treyarch’s game, which is a cold war story from what Kotaku’s sources have said.
Sledgehammer’s last game as a lead developer was Call of Duty: WW2 in 2017 and before that was Call of Duty: Advance Warfare in 2014. So they only were able to lead 2 titles before getting the boot which is unfortunate. Treyarch and Infinity Ward will be going through insane crunch to get games out every other year rather than having a space in-between with a 3rd developer.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 5 is likely to launch alongside both current and next generation platforms.
