Panic has announced their own handheld video game console called the “PlayDate”. This console is confirmed to have a black and white display. They are advertising a crank as one of the innovations of this system. The crank is a never before seen controller input, but for those that do not want to use it, not all games will force you to. They have also said that they are developing exclusive games for this system, and every game will come with the system.
The way they release games is a single title per week in a season. Each season is 12 games a pop and there could be more in the future as well. Wi-Fi is on here so a digital store is a posibility according to PlayDate.
Interestingly enough, this is using a custom OS but it seems to be built off of macOS. A cool thing is the console will charge via USB-C, hardware makers are slowly getting away from Micro USB.
Panic plans to launch this system in early 2020 with pre-orders live later this year. It will cost $149.99.
