Jason Schreier, a news editor at Kotaku, has confirmed that the upcoming installment of Call of Duty, long rumoured to be Modern Warfare 4, is in fact called “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare”.
The confirmation comes after the youtuber “TheLongSensation”, long known for posting leaked information about the call of duty franchise, released a tweet claiming that the game would ditch the numerical classification system we have become accustomed to in the Modern Warfare series and instead be called “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare”.
Jason quickly shot back by quoting the tweet with an affirmation, claiming that yes it was indeed true that the next game would be called “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare” and that video games were “absurd” due to their naming conventions.
A return to the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare universe was first leaked over a year ago now, and many leaks pointed toward the game definitively being called “Modern Warfare 4”, so it’s strange to see this confusing twist on the name.
Long Sensation went on to tweet that his theory was that the game would be a prequel to Modern Warfare 2, potentially following a younger version of the character Simon “Ghost” Riley. Whether this is truly a “theory” or another leak is yet to be seen.
His next tweet claimed that it was no longer his place to leak information, but we wouldn’t have to wait long for the reveal itself. There would be no teasers for the upcoming game, it would just be a straight up reveal.

Both of these tweets were deleted after the quote from Jason Schreier.
