Update #3: Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated will cost a mere $29.99.
Update #2: Cut content from the original game makes its return including Robo Squidward’s boss fight. This is a full blown remake, not a remaster. The horde mode will be 2 players via either online or splitscreen.
Update: THQ Nordic confirms that the game will feature an all new multiplayer mode via the YouTube trailer’s description: “Want to join forces in a brand new multiplayer mode? The battle is on”.
Original story: In a long series of Tweets leading up to the announcement, THQ Nordic teases the return of our favorite sponge… and now they finally confirmed it. Spongebob will return to PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
While it won’t show up at E3, it is super amazing to finally get a confirmation that our favorite sponge is making his return. The port will be handed by Purple Lamp Studios! We do not have a date, but this game will also likely make an appearance on PS5 and the next Xbox as well. When THQ Nordic announced the partnership with Viacom’s Nickelodeon, they mentioned that they’d be bringing legacy games to both current and next generation platforms. So let’s hope this is one of those games!
The original game launched in 2003 on PS2, Xbox, GameCube, GameBoy Advance, and PC.
