Update: Nintendo has now confirmed that the ability to play with your friends online will come in an update.
Nintendo confirmed that they are making some changes to matchmaking so that you will be able to play with your friends online in Super Mario Maker 2. When previews for the upcoming Nintendo Switch exclusive came out, people were surprised to find out you would not be able to team up with your friends online. There was a immense backlash, and it seems Nintendo got the memo. It is not clear if you will be able to play with your friends right at launch, but it is confirmed that you will be able too eventually.
