I was a little surprised when Square Enix announced Final Fantasy VIII Remastered. It’s something people have been wanting for a long time now and the developers seemed to pour a little more into this than one would expect.

For instance, characters have been completely remodeled enough to fit in, but not seem too high resolution. Hair, faces, and even details on clothes are much better looking so that way they look semi-modern.

Not only that, but there will be improvements to gameplay;

  • Battle Reinforcement: Keeps HP and ATB at maximum, allowing special skills to be activated at any time.
  • No Encounters: Turn on / off battle encounters.
  • Triple Speed: All scenes advance at three times the speed (excluding movies).

The time has finally come to revisit the classic PS1 title released in 1999, often overlooked by its predecessor Final Fantasy VII. Final Fantasy VIII Remastered launches on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on later this year.
