On Thursday, June 27th, Nintendo presented their 79th official business report to shareholders. In said meeting, Representative Director and President of Nintendo Co., Ltd. Shuntaro Furukawa stated the following:

“We are thinking about providing an extension of the online service which is currently providing Famicom (Nintendo Entertainment System outside of Japan) software, as well as other methods of providing them,”

Could this mean the Nintendo Switch could be receiving more retro games and platforms in the future? The next obvious step for Nintendo would be providing Super Nintendo games to subscribers of the Nintendo Switch Online service. Could this possibly lead to a more traditional Virtual Console as well? It will definitely be interesting to see what the future holds for retro games on the Switch.
