Earlier this week Nintendo held their 79th annual shareholder meeting. During this meeting top Nintendo executives told shareholders and investors that they are investigating recent advancements in 5G technology. They also informed them that they are not just “chasing trends”, not surprising seeing as though Nintendo tend to do their own thing. This might be we will be seeing some sort of streaming service when a comes to fruition. Nintendo also mentioned they are working with some allys and rivals in the market of cloud gaming. Here’s hoping for xCloud on Switch.
Nintendo Director and Senior Executive Officer stated that they would not jump in head first when it comes to 5G and would see how it can benefit themselves and the gaming industry in its entirety. Here’s what he had say:
“5G can send a large amount of data without latency. We are aware that this technology has been gaining a lot of attention, and Nintendo is also investigating it.“
With many cities rolling out 5G this year it would only be a matter of time before the games industry took advantage. The only problem is that it is expensive but if history will repeat itself and like 3G and 4G before it, 5G will become more affordable as time goes on.
