During a live stream for Persona 5: Royal, various Atlus and SEGA staff took stage to talk about the game. Most notably though, President of Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan Asia Atsushi Morita also was there later on.
We do know that Morita said that the mainline series is vital to Sony Interactive Entertainment as a platform holder via Persona Central. Due to the series’ critical acclaim and rising popularity, it makes sense too.
The Persona series is one of the Japanese IPs that can compete internationally. The IP has walked alongside PlayStation ever since the first entry in 1996. I hope that we can continue walking together in the future.President of Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan Asia Atsushi Morita
Besides the original Persona which also came to PC, every single mainline title of the Shin Megami spinoff has always been exclusive. Persona 2 landed only on PS1, with Persona 3 hitting PS2 with a PSP version later on for both 2 and 3. Persona 4 also hit PS2 exclusively with a PS Vita enhanced version down the road. Finally Persona 5 hit PS3 and PS4 exclusively with Royal hitting just PS4. So it’s best not to expect the main games on Xbox, Nintendo Switch, or PC anytime soon (if ever).
Persona 5: Royal launches in 2020 exclusively on PS4, it has just recently gone gold.
