Seems like Labo VR isn’t the only VR Nintendo had tested, as Nintendo has a Google Cardboard like design planned. It would be a device that connected to the Nintendo Switch and cut off part of the display for a 3D effect. The patent was filled in 2018 but just recently approved in Japan.
The chances of this launching seems pretty low, otherwise we wouldn’t have gotten Labo VR. However, it could be a secondary method of getting VR in the future. Still no headset unfortunately.
Surprisingly, Nintendo has supported VR quite a lot with games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey gaining a new reality. Obviously it can’t render AAAs like PS VR or Oculus Quest can, however, we could see bigger titles come to Nintendo Switch VR as long as Nintendo believes in that future.
