During the latest financial report from Starbreeze, it was confirmed that the company will split into 2: New Starbreeze Publishing AB and New Starbreeze Studios AB. Due to this constant reconstruction, the constant sell off of IPs and studios, and no real new releases upcoming that could make a plausible impact, it makes it hard for Payday 3 to launch anytime soon.

The company recognizes this and confirms that the game will launch in 2022, essentially killing off any hope for a PS4 or Xbox One port and making it PS5 and Xbox Scarlett for consoles, if it even leaves PC. Confirmed in 2016 and entered full production in 2017, that’s a LONG time, nearly 5 years before we even see the game potentially shown off.

This makes it seem like the company needed reassurance that it will survive, but with Payday 2 already on Nintendo Switch, there isn’t much that they can do anymore to secure funding. Overkill’s The Walking Dead nearly bankrupt Starbreeze and it struggles to find funding, so Payday 3 might ultimately be canceled unless bought out by a publisher.
