Grand Theft Auto 5 has been available since 2013 when it released on PS3 and Xbox 360 and when it came out it was a massive phenomenon, flash forward to current day and that momentum has not slowed down. In the most recent financial report from Take-Two the company that owns Rockstar it was revealed that GTA 5 has reached over 115 million copies sold, last May it was announced that the game crossed over 110 million which shows that even though the game is 6 years old it’s still a popular powerhouse. When asked about GTA’s selling power CEO Strauss Zelnick had this to say.
“I think as the install base grows, if you’re over the age of 17, it’s a must-have title. This title, remember, was developed for the last generation originally and then a new version was developed for this generation. And it’s pretty amazing that a title originally developed for last generation remains the standard-bearer for quality more than six years later.”
It’ll be interesting to see how well the game will continue to sell considering the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett are releasing next year and with a sequel presumably coming sometime in the future but judging by the sales figures that momentum won’t be stopping anytime soon.
Grand Theft Auto 5 is available now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
