Chinese video game company Tencent is looking for a way to expand into the North American and European market and a partnership with Nintendo is a good way to do it.

A Tencent spokesperson recently said that the company is looking to create games outside of the Chinese video game market using Nintendo IPs. Details like whether they will be mobile titles or full games on the Switch were not stated but Tencent is hoping to shadow Nintendo development teams and discover how they make video games so great.

Note that Nintendo is already working with Tencent to bring Nintendo’s IPs to the Chinese audiences so this extension of the partnership makes sense. Nintendo is notorious for being protective of their IPs and will rarely let studios outside of the first and second party studios make games.

Nintendo is making an exception for the Chinese company and it will be interesting to hear more about the nature of the partnership as info becomes available.
