In Japan, Shenmue III was a colossal failure. I’m not even joking, it sold less than the remasters of I & II. As depressing as that is, it’s really not surprising. Deep Silver and THQ Nordic didn’t do much to promote the game.

The series opened to 257K on the Dreamcast which didn’t sell too hot in Japan, but on PS4 where the console is still huge, it hardly could crack 18K, down from 19.7K from the remasters.

Shenmue III is out now on PS4 and PC. Series creator Yu Suzuki says more games in the series are on the way, but THQ Nordic might not be the publisher since this didn’t take off.
