On November 18th, 2019, Valve got back into making real games. Radio silence game from the developer after multiple games were canceled because of Source 2 not being a usable engine at the time and the studios wanting to move to Unreal Engine 4.
All looked down until Artifact, a Dota spinoff game around. Yeah, gamers were pissed off a little bit that it wasn’t a flagship title, but when they announced Half- Life: Alyx, everything changed. We saw what Source 2 was capable of and it’s absolutely insane. Alyx, being in development for 4.5 years, is finally what Valve has been waiting for, but apparently that’s not all.
Spotted by the YouTuber called Valve News Network, Source 2 and Steam VR have multiple references to Left 4 Dead 3. Now, as a lot of people know, Left 4 Dead 3 was essentially a near finished game but was canceled due to Source 2 being a mess as mentioned before. So now with the engine finished, code started appearing out of nowhere. There’s a list of NPCs, and many are from Left 4 Dead alongside its sequel:
There’s some very distinguishable lines of code there, including the Bride Witch, Coach, Clowns, CEDA, Jimmy, and Crawler as all appear in previous entries. Something has to be up, especially with all this appearing within the past year.
My take: Personally, I believe Valve will reinvent the series for consoles, PC, and VR. It’ll just take a little bit more time to do, given the game has to restart development to a team that hasn’t worked on it in years so they’ll need some time to re-adjust.
