Valve took the world by storm by announcing a brand new Half-Life game in over 15 years. Well, to most people’s surprise, it will be a VR only game. Alright, that’s fine, Valve Index is now sold out because of it. However, the biggest market leader in VR (PlayStation VR) has been absent from the announcement despite Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and Windows Mixed Reality also being confirmed with Valve Index.

Well, it doesn’t look all doom and gloom for Sony’s now quite outdated headset as Greg Coomer, a Designer at Valve has confirmed that the software giant hasn’t ruled out a PS VR version of the game down the road. While the initial release will be “available for SteamVR only”, down the road it could potentially come.

We believe Sony’s VR platform has been a huge success for the medium, and we assume that lots of Sony customers would love to experience this new chapter of Half-Life.

The port isn’t in development either “because we’re very focused on the initial release”, Coomer says. When the game launches on PC VR headsets though, don’t be shocked to see a PS VR version come. It could even be PS5 exclusive due to power constraints.

Half-Life: Alyx is coming to Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Valve Index, and Windows Mixed Reality in March 2020. A Left 4 Dead game is also reportedly in development for VR platforms as well. More Half-Life games are on the way after Alyx too.
