Alyx, the newest title in the Half-Life series in over 15 years won’t have multiplayer in the game, Valve programmer Robin Walker confirms.

He mentions that it’s a story driven game, rather than having friends join you or play in some online mode. It’s also a “one-way journey” meaning it’s not open world but you can have various ways of going around things, similarity to Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.

This is a traditional Half-Life experience, so it’s fundamentally a one-way journey. Half-Life has always been about experiencing a hand-crafted, meticulously designed path, where every space is the result of a team of people thinking about what’s in it and why it’s interesting. Some of those spaces afford multiple ways to navigate through them, but you’re always moving forward overall.

Half-Life: Alyx launches in March 2020 on Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Valve Index, and Windows Mixed Reality. A PS VR port is possible in the future.
