As somebody who adores some of Housemarque’s titles like Resogun, Super Stardust and the criminally underrated Nex Machina. It was a sad day when they announced that they would no longer be developing that sort of old school arcade shoot-em-up game. I totally understand that they have to keep the lights on and keep food on the table for their families but it still stung a bit.
Today, via their website, Housemarque CEO, Ilari Kuittinen made a statement where he went over the fact that Housemarque’s projects would all be put on hold (including Stormdivers) and the studio would shift focus to this major unannounced project, which has been in development for 3 years. Kuittinen also stated that the game would be revealed in the “coming months” and there is a “yet-to-be” announced partner for the game. Housemarque and Sony have collaborated a lot in the past with games like Resogun and Matterfall so you would be forgiven for thinking that it is Sony, but Kuittinen gave no clues as to who it was and could really be anybody at this point.
There is a very good documentary that follows some Housemarque devlopers around during the development of Nex Machina called The Name of the Game. It’s a good insight into the games industry and worth a watch if you are into that stuff. You can purchase this from Steam.
Are you excited to see what type of game Housemarque are working on after years of old school arcade action? Let us know you’re thoughts on the and your hopes from Housemarque!
