Disney has confirmed the closure of Fogbank Entertainment, which ended in 60+ staff losing their jobs. The San Francisco studio, formed in 2018, only released a single game – Storyscape.

In addition to this, reports from September of last year were correct about Disney wanting to sell their final division as mobile publisher Scopely has acquired the rest of FoxNext Games for a reported $250 million. The pair of studios include FoxNext Games Los Angeles and Cold Iron Studios, makers of Marvel’s Strike Force and an upcoming AAA Alien title respectively.

Unfortunately, Cold Iron Studios will be sold off yet again. Scopely has no interest in keeping Cold Iron in the slightest as it doesn’t fit their lineup of studios, as they are a mobile publisher and this Alien game is focused on console and PC.

When we first sat down with them last summer, it was pretty clear there were a lot of synergies and over time it became undeniable this was the perfect asset for us to acquire.

Tim O’Brian, CRO of Scopely

I’m extremely proud of what our talented team at FoxNext Games has built and accomplished in just a few years. And look forward to joining forces with the impressive team at Scopely, who have a well-deserved reputation as one of the preeminent companies in the free-to-play games arena.
