Nintendo has officially discontinued the Nintendo 2DS in North America, making the New 2DS XL the only 3DS system in production.

The 2DS launched in 2013 as a way to make the 3DS family of systems cheaper. It had no 3D support or clamshell design to keep costs down, and it was mainly marketed at kids. Given that this was the 2nd to last console left, the New 2DS XL determines when Nintendo finally kills off the brand for good.

The 3DS originally launched in 2011 and spawned a variety of other consoles: 3DS XL, New 3DS, New 3DS XL, 2DS, and New 2DS XL.
